The neighborhoods are safe and secure, and there are many activities for citizens of all ages that keep everyone healthy and active.
In addition to local governments being dedicated to progress, there are also over 245 non-profit organizations that help to make the St. Thomas area a better place to live and to help improve the quality of life for everyone.2 Although some people in this area have struggled with mental illness, the city is particularly healthy�a few cases of mental illness include substance abuse, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. These are all things that can be treated and you can find out about local programs through the Family Service Thames Valley by calling 519-433-0183.3
Current Initiatives
Some other changes and plans for the city of St. Thomas may also help to treat and prevent mental illness�the St. Thomas and Elgin County Housing Strategy is designed to help families that face eviction, are going through divorce or separation, or any other problems.4 This can help people who are worried about financial problems or suffer from mental illness as a result of the stress that they are under. This plan is very important to the community and is currently in progress to help the people of St. Thomas.
